Lesson: Farm Rentals
Final Quiz: Farm Rentals

Course Description

This 1-credit course focuses on farm rental arrangements and the tax reporting decisions that drive real outcomes for clients. You will learn how to distinguish common farm rental fact patterns, select the right reporting form, and avoid the most common self-employment tax mistakes tied to material participation and landlord services.

The course compares the practical use of Schedule E, Schedule F, and Form 4835, and explains why those choices matter. You will also review how to identify and document material participation, and how rental type (crop ground vs. pasture, fixed cash rent vs. more involved arrangements) changes the analysis.

Topics Covered: Cash rent basics; crop ground vs. pasture; Schedule E vs. Form 4835; when Schedule F applies; material participation overview; landlord services and SE tax risk; expense and depreciation considerations; entity reporting references.
