Course Information

This program addresses the federal income-tax and information-reporting responsibilities of businesses selling through websites, payment applications, and online marketplaces. The course covers reconciliation of Form 1099-K with gross receipts; reporting of returns, refunds, marketplace fees, shipping charges, and other adjustments; Schedule C and entity-return reporting; inventory accounting and cost of goods sold; accounting-method considerations; Forms 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC; worker classification; estimated-tax obligations; and federal recordkeeping requirements. Case studies will demonstrate how to reconcile marketplace reports to taxable income and identify common reporting errors. A limited portion - no more than 20% of instructional time - will provide an overview of state sales-tax economic nexus and multistate income-tax obligations as they relate to records maintained for federal tax compliance.
