Technically correct tax advice fails the moment a client can’t follow it. When an explanation is accurate to the Code but inaccessible to the client, confusion reads as risk - and risk erodes trust, regardless of how sound the underlying analysis is. In this fast-paced, 60-minute session, Michael DeBlis III, Esq. shows practicing accountants why firms default to jargon, what it actually costs in client confidence, follow-up work, and retention, and how to fix it without sacrificing technical accuracy. Participants will work through a practical, repeatable three-part framework - analogy, layering, and the plain-language swap - and apply it to three real-world scenarios accountants field constantly: S-corp elections, passive activity loss limitations, and the QBI deduction. The session also covers how to carry plain language into written communication (emails, engagement letters, and notices) and how to build it into firm-wide practice through shared glossaries, templated communications, and clarity-focused review. Attendees will leave with a takeaway translation table and plain-language glossary, along with a concrete action plan to put into practice on their very next client call.
